Welcome To The Developing Tank

Hello family and friends!  Welcome to my new blog, "The Developing Tank".  For those of you who don't know, I will be heading off to Missoula, Montana this Summer to attend the Rocky Mountain School of Photography.  Photography has always been a passion of mine and I'm hoping that by the end of this journey it will be a career.

I had originally looked into this program more than 3 years ago.  I was going through a "what to do with my life" stage.  I had graduated from school, done internships in PR and journalism, worked as a real estate agent, started and closed a consulting business, and been a restaurant manager, bookkeeper, server and event planner.  At the time, however, I had a job I loved, Scott was graduating from college and we were just beginning to get on our feet.  The timing just wasn't right.  I pushed the idea to the back of my mind and dove headfirst into my job, got a dog, bought and re-modeled a house, got married, and traveled.  My life was wonderful; but last Fall the familiar warmth of complacency began to stifle me and the "what to do with my life" questions began to creep back in.  The idea of going to photography school resurfaced and this time, the timing was right.  The stars aligned and I pulled the trigger.

Now, it's only 8 weeks away and the best words to describe the way I'm feeling are excited and nervous.  My very supportive husband, Scott, and Saki (my baby shih tzu) will be staying home in Salt Lake so that I can have this experience.  I am incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support I have received from my family and friends.  They are a huge source of strength for me.

School runs from June-October and is a total immersion program; meaning, I will eat, sleep, and breathe photography for 5 months straight.  No job, minimal social life (we'll see about this one) and LOTS of photography.  Go online and check out the school if you'd like http://www.rmsp.com/.

In photography, the developing tank is a light tight container where the latent image on film is exposed and becomes a visible image.  I hope that this blog will allow you to participate in my development as a photographer, as I document my time leading up to Missoula and the adventures that I have while living in Big Sky Country.  It's great to have you along for the ride!
